- What if my computer does not have 128-bit encryption?
If your computer does not currently use 128-bit encryption, simply follow the appropriate instructions for your browser listed below. If you have questions or need additional help, call us and we'll be happy to walk you through the process.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer - Windows
(recommend Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1)
To print these instructions, select Ctrl-P.
- Visit the Microsoft Web site page Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/download.asp).
- From the right-hand sidebar labeled Download, click on the Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 link.
- Follow the download and install steps to save and download to disk. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on your connection to the Microsoft Web site, so we suggest you begin it when you have some time to spare. You may want to write down the name and location of this file to ensure you can find it later.
- Once the download is complete, exit your browser (by selecting the File menu item from the top pull-down bar and choosing Exit).
- Install the software by double-clicking on the setup icon on your desktop or in the location you saved the file named ie6setup.exe or something similar.
- The Internet Explorer Installation wizard will walk you through the installation, and then you will be ready to go.
- To verify that the 128-bit encryption is in place, start the new browser, select the Help menu item from the top pull-down bar and choose About Internet Explorer...
- On the screen that appears, Windows users will see displayed the 128-bit cipher strength.
Note: If you are running Windows 2000, installing the latest version of Internet Explorer will not change the current level of encryption on your computer, you will need to install the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/recommended/encryption/default.asp )
- Microsoft Internet Explorer - Macintosh
To print these instructions, select Command-P.
- Visit the Microsoft Mactopia Web site page Internet Explorer 5 for Mac (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/internetexplorer/internetexplorer.aspx?pid=internetexplorer).
- From the far-right column labeled Download Internet Explorer 5 for Mac now!, click on the appropriate For Mac OS X or the For Mac OS 9.x link.
- Under the Download now! list for OS X, choose the English.dmg link. For OS 9.x, choose either the .bin or .hqx link. (The link labeled The .bin or .hqx file formats - what's the difference? will help you find out if the Binhex or Macbinary download file type is best for you.)
- Internet Explorer will begin downloading. Because this download and install time can vary (from few minutes to a couple of hours) depending on your connection to the Microsoft Web site, we suggest you begin when you have time to spare. Read and follow the installation steps. Netscape users will require StuffIt Expander to decode the Binhex or Macbinary file.
- Once the download is complete, quit your browser (by selecting the application name menu or File menu item from the top pull-down bar and choosing Quit).
- Follow the installation instructions. OS 9.x users may need to install the software by double-clicking on the self-mounting image file (.smi) saved to your desktop or your default downloads directory.
- To verify that the 128-bit encryption is in place, launch the new browser, select the application menu or Apple menu and choose About Internet Explorer...
- On the screen that appears, press the Support button to see the 128-bit encryption designation.
- Netscape
(recommend Netscape 7.1)
To print these instructions, select Ctrl-P. For Mac users, select Command-P.
- Visit the Netscape Web site page Archived Client Products(http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/archive71x.jsp).
- In the Archived Client Products page locate the 7.1 English. Follow the appropriate link to begin the download. You will be asked to save an installation .exe file, or an installation file will be downloaded to your desktop.
- Because download time may take from few minutes or longer depending on your connection to the Netscape Web site, we suggest you begin when you have time to spare. Once the download is finished, it will be given a download complete message. Once it is complete exit your browser.
- To install the downloaded software, double-click on the installation file on your desktop (or your default downloads directory). The installation Wizard should appear and walk you through the installation process. Macintosh users will require StuffIt Expander to decode the Binhex or Macbinary file.
- Once the installation is complete, verify by checking your browser to ensure the 128-bit encryption is available. To do this, select the Help menu item from the top pull-down bar and choose About Netscape. On the screen that appears, scroll down to the boldface paragraph that reads, "This version supports...". It should state that it supports high-grade (128-bit) security. Then you know that the 128-bit US security encryption is in place.
